HI, my name is MARYAM.
My work as an artist is rooted in a research-based practice, which explores film, visual poetry, movement and
performance work.
I use participatory techniques and different media to create layered, emergent, collective experiences, films and installations rising from the ground and weaving themes of home, belonging, identity and their absence - displacement, exile, disconnection, disorientation.
I focus on questions of reclamation, celebration, memory, reconciliation and invisibility. Their interaction with body, heart, spirit.
I work with an approach grounded in ecological, somatic principles, exploring what is beyond linear, colonial techniques.
My interests lay with the dramaturgy and creative process,
as well as the articulation of complex world and works
into space and multi-media concepts.

As a somatic researcher, I support projects find their form
structure and integrity, rooting in lineage, solid research and imagination.
I facilitate spaces that support people in unearthing their creativity, to reconnect with their self and build work rooted in their spiritual, creative and cultural lineage.
I work with editorial, commercial, and institutional clients to develop narratives that combine research, human connection, and sensitivity to bring forward visual and creative work.
I support collective and creative collaborations
across geographies and disciplines.
I believe in sustaining cultural shifts and narratives rooted in connection, collaboration and celebration of who we are, of our bodies, our roots, our essence
and creative intelligence.
I studied law (MSc, 2012), political and social sciences (MSc), documentary filmmaking, writing, movement-based practices and somatic dance, photography and post-colonial narrations, as well as being deeply interested in mystic and animist traditions and ecological thinking.
I bridge a pop soul and millennial spirit with research, experience with both research and international cooperation, commercial production, filmmaking, inquiry
and lineage thinking.
I am currently founding ACASA/3rd THING - an independent
studio facilitating post-colonial and embodied research, emergent productions, narrative alignment, and land reclamation.
We research and experiment with different media, while creating with people and guiding them to be in touch with their creative potential and the embodiment of the places they belong to.
We believe in creating a web of artists and creators that collectively moves towards post-colonial narratives, integration of feminine and masculine principles, collaboration, movement and circulation, as well as land and wealth reclamation and regeneration.
